Legacy has it Pineau was invented by accident: someone mixed unfermented grape with some cognac et voila: fortified wine from la Charente Maritime
Foody, coffee fetishist, wine lover (WSET2) and wanna-be chef. I was introduced to Pineau in the 80s while on vacation on Ile d’Oleron.
The formula behind Pineau is actually simple: combine grape juice and (at least) 1-year-old Cognac, then age in Cognac casks and tanks for a minimum of 18 months.
